nourish your needs
Nourish yourself with what you need in order to grow. We can learn from nature, in that, plants and animals only take what they need to survive. What if as humans we placed more importance on consuming just what we needed - instead of over doing with materials, stimulation, and unnecessary thoughts. Don’t get me wrong - as humans it is one of our luxuries to be able to indulge but its nice to catch your self, step back, and realize how little we can truly be happy with. Actually I find myself at my happiest with the less I have. I have learned this through my current transition. Career changes leading to a need of frugality, as well as downsizing. As I am moving out of my home, where I have lived for the past three years, and stepping into an unknown living situation, I find myself craving to get rid of everything. With this newer way of thought, what previously felt like a forced shedding of possessions has now become a choice. As my final day approaches in my sweet apartment, my space is only filled with a few necessary and favorite things; such as furniture pieces, clothes, food and utensils, and the bare necessities for my simple beauty care routine. I know this minimalism is not a new concept; but it’s the first time I have truly felt the benefits of it. Less stuff, less clutter, less distraction - more creativity, space, time and money to be spent in a meaningful way.
I also take understand “nourish your needs” in this way. Plants know what they need to thrive, and take it unapologetically. It’s okay to know what you need in order to make yourself feel good, and to give yourself that. If we know we need to drink more water or get more sleep…why don’t we? If we know there are areas of our life we want to say goodbye to…why don’t we? I know I feel my best when I take care of myself truthfully, then I am able to show up to others and share my most best being with them. What do these things look like for me? Time to myself to reflect and meditate - especially in the morning, eating intuitively and for what makes me feel good, surrounding myself with those who inspire me, rest, minimal screen time, and plenty of time in nature; to name a few. Sometimes I slip away from these things, but I recognize that and hop back in to it.
What objects, emotions, or habits no longer serve you? Or what do you want to add more of into your life?
